Appliance Cost Checker too - As part of their ongoing mission to support consumers in making smarter energy choices, the Consumer Council commissioned an animated explainer video to introduce and promote their Appliance Cost Checker tool. This online resource helps users calculate the running costs of household appliances, with the goal of raising awareness around energy consumption and empowering people to manage their bills more effectively. I was brought on to design, storyboard, and animate the full video — delivering a clear, friendly walkthrough of the tool and how it can be used.
From the outset, the brief was centred around accessibility and clarity. The tool itself is straightforward and practical, so my approach was to mirror that in the design — clean layouts, simplified icons, and a consistent colour palette that aligned with the Consumer Council’s existing brand. I started by mapping out the user journey and translating that into a storyboard that highlighted key features: how to select appliances, input usage time, and interpret the results.
Once the storyboard was approved, I built out the full animation using a mix of on-screen demonstrations, UI highlights, and animated iconography. The video needed to strike the right tone — informative but approachable — so I kept the pacing tight and the motion purposeful, ensuring every visual cue supported the viewer’s understanding of the tool. I also designed with accessibility in mind, making sure text and icons were legible across all screen sizes.
In addition to the visuals, I worked closely with the team to match the animation with a clear voiceover and carefully selected background music. Together, these elements created a polished, easy-to-follow explainer that could live on the Consumer Council website, social channels, and partner platforms. The final video was delivered in 1920x1080 format, ready for use across both web and presentation contexts.
This project was a great example of using animation as a tool for public education — taking something functional and transforming it into an engaging visual experience. From early design concepts to final render, it was rewarding to lead the creative from end to end, helping make a genuinely useful tool more accessible to a wide audience.
For the Consumer Council’s winter and spring campaigns, I created a series of Digital Out of Home (DOOH) animations aimed at raising awareness around energy costs, consumer support tools, and the transition toward net zero. These campaigns ran across Adshel Live screens during colder months, when energy usage was top of mind for many households. Working from existing static design assets, I adapted the layouts into animated formats — refining the visual hierarchy and introducing subtle motion to draw attention and improve legibility in fast-moving, public environments. Each DOOH asset was designed to be bold, direct, and easily digestible, ensuring the core message landed within a matter of seconds.
In addition to DOOH, I also developed animated social content for the same campaigns — optimised for mobile viewing across Instagram, Facebook, and X. These social posts took a slightly more dynamic approach, using animation to visualise stats, reinforce messaging, and guide the viewer’s attention across key information points. I ensured all animations remained on-brand, accessible, and technically optimised for each platform. Whether signposting to the Consumer Council’s energy toolkit or promoting tips for lowering energy bills, the animations were built to be eye-catching while maintaining a tone of empathy and authority that aligned with the wider campaign strategy.
