Railway 200 was a landmark campaign marking the bicentennial of the first passenger rail journey — a national celebration of the industry’s past, present, and future. Delivered in collaboration with Network Rail, the campaign spanned multiple themes including heritage, innovation, and careers in rail. I was brought into the project once the overall creative concept and storyboards had been developed by the senior creative team.

My role focused on animating a suite of four videos that formed part of the campaign’s central content. Working closely with the lead creative, I translated their vision into motion — building out the edit, animating supporting elements, and ensuring consistency across all videos in tone, timing, and visual style. The animations needed to strike a balance between educational clarity and engaging storytelling, appealing to a wide audience including young people and families.

The campaign featured four central characters designed to guide viewers through the themes of the series. These characters were brought to life by an external character animator. I managed the integration of their work into the overall compositions — syncing character animation with my own motion design, adding visual flourishes, and refining transitions to ensure each video felt seamless and coherent.

While I wasn’t involved in the initial concepting or storyboarding stages, I played a key role in executing the final animated assets, working from layered design files and rough timings to produce polished, broadcast-ready content. I also sourced and edited music and sound effects for each video, enhancing the tone and impact of the final animations. Each video was delivered to spec, on schedule, and in line with the creative direction and strategic goals of the broader Railway 200 campaign.

Being part of a project with such national significance — and collaborating across disciplines to help bring complex creative ideas to life — was a rewarding experience. It showcased the strength of tight teamwork and clear communication in turning big, multi-layered ideas into engaging animated content.
